Southern Style

After living in Colorado the last 12 years, I notice and appreciate the southern style of my home state, Georgia.  Colorado is all about comfort and performance.  We wear our puffy coats, our patagonia, our north face, and denim is huge.  There are even those out there (NOT me, let me make that clear) who wear sweats and pajamas as clothes.  In the south that sighting would be a very rare occasion.  In Colorado, being dressy includes jeans but in the south jeans are still considered casual attire.

For all of you out there who haven't had the pleasure of experiencing some fine Southern Style - let me fill you all in on some!

Khaki pants are the pants to wear in the South!  Just about all guys wear them with flipflops & a nice oxford button down.

Seersucker goes perfect with a mint julep!
Monogramming will never go out of style in the South.  It is a tradition that is alive and well down there.  People monogram everything.  I mean EVERYTHING!!  From towels, to sheets, to clothing, to jewelry, to housewares, to you name it!

The Tervis cup is a must have and a staple in your glass cupboard.  Since it is so humid in the south, your cup sweats and your ice melts fast.  We don't have that problem out here in CO.  These ingenious cups don't sweat and insulate your beverage so the ice won't melt so fast!

In the South it is all about the SEC football!  Tailgating and game day down in the South just runs through your veins.  I didn't even know who Georgia's pro football team even was!

In the South everyone is typically looking mighty fine.  We fix our hair, put on our makeup and just look put together!  Yes, these are events above but it goes beyond that.  Even going to the grocery store one must look darling.  That is a huge difference between CO and the South.  And most people appreciate the finer things in life in the South.  They have the mentality of saving your money to buy the real thing instead of spending on something that isn't as good quality.

A little trivia:  Can anyone tell me what event the people are at in the above outside pictures???  If you are Southern then you can't answer!!!

Of course, there are lots more things that make up Southern Style but these are the biggest ones that I see that are different from Colorado.

  1. I think I like southern style. Although I adore my jeans and would live in them if I could, I never quite understood the whole sweats and workout wear in public thing. I wish we had more occasion to wear cute dresses here. Is that some sort of derby or something?

    1. It is a type of derby! It is called a steeplechase. Southern style is wonderful. I appreciate my heritage and all the southern charm.

  2. I was going to guess Preakness for the pictures - guess that shows my MD-ness :-) My mom (who is now in South Carolina) always has *such* a tough time when she visits. She loves her dresses and skirts and has always been uncomfortable with our laid-back ways here. Although, she does send my girls the cutest outfits! They have the sweetest dresses and shirts that are perfect for our hot summer days...my girls won't know what hit them when we go visit Nanna this summer!

    1. The kids' are even CUTER in the South! Gingham smocked dress with big bows. I love getting a couple of those dresses when I go home but they are pretty $$$$.

    2. Mom hits the after-season sales...which is why I've ended up with a few of those gingham outfits that only fit in December through February - haha! I have a super cute gingham pants/tank outfit with a turkey on one side and reverses to show a spider with "Boo" on the other. Doesn't quite work for our fall...but I have been known to dress out of season - haha!
