My old girl, India

Our first child, India, who is our beloved chocolate lab is getting to be so old.  She is almost 15 years old now.  She can't really hear or see.  She is incontinent  and doesn't have much of an appetite anymore.  You can't take her on walks too much because then she can barely even walk after that.  It's so sad to see her this way.

It's also so hard to take care of her with 3 little girls too.  Old pets are so difficult!

I remember how cute she was when I came home with her.  Andy told me that I better not come home with a dog because our apartment didn't allow pets.  Well, when I showed up with her he was immediately in love too.  Needless to say, we lost our security deposit but oh well.  She was such a good puppy.  She was always that dog that would sit outside of a store and wait for me without even having to tie her up.

She loved to hike and swim and fetch.  She is the best vacuum cleaner.  She also liked to hog up most of the bed too.  After I got pregnant with my first daughter she was booted to the floor.  And now after three girls she has sadly become the dog instead the child.  I feel kinda bad about that but it was inevitable I suppose.  But sometimes I feel like she looks at me like maybe I betrayed her.

I decided to look back on all the photos of her throughout the years.  She has been such a wonderful companion even in her old age.

  1. She is beautiful - each and every gray hair is a little love that you've given her. We have a framed picture on our wall that says "Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole". I got that waaay before kiddos...but with the love that the girls give our pup and the fact that Anika wants to give our passed-away pup flowers to sniff when she gets to heaven (a looooong time away, mind you!), demonstrates that the love and dedication you have for your pup is being learned by the littles in your home. Good job, Krista!

    1. Aw thanks! She has been such a good girl. Feels sad that I know her time with us is getting shorter.
