Keeping it Real

So many of my friends ask me How do you do everything?  Well sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.  I am always in motion that is the truth.  But with three little girls & a husband you have to be.  But I am kind of like that children's book When you give a mouse a cookie.  Just give me a project or something & I am on a mission.

So, in the meanwhile something else gives.  I thought I would share with everyone out there that there isn't one person, family, life, relationship out there that is perfect.  It's so easy to compare ourselves to others but the truth of the matter is usually they are more messed up than you would ever know!  Here is a little list of things to show my weakness' so that maybe you will see my human-ness.  And that hopefully all the standards that you try to keep up with will be broken down a little bit.  Maybe a little chuckle too cause I am sure you guys can relate.

If it makes you feel any better..........

  • I regularly pay late fees on my utilities.
  • I still have those jeans in my closet that I can't pull over my hips.
  • The laundry is my arch nemesis!

Yes, this is my bedroom!

  • My marriage is far from perfect.  It is always work but we always try.
  • I have been known to lock my kid's in the backyard.
  • The gas is always on empty when I get in the car.
  • I can't tell you how many times I have realized that I have failed to pull up & reconnect my nursing bra.  Therefore, I have been walking around pretty much Fancy Free!
  • WHY is this always left for me????

  • My framed cross-stitched motto above the washer & dryer reads "The Hurrier I Go the Behinder I Get".  I try to follow that advice.
  • Too many times I realize as my children are walking out the door to school that their clothes are filthy!
  • Too many times I have wondered when the last time was that I bathed my kids.
  • Sometimes my husband gets worried when I cook because I never follow the directions.  So some nights we end up doing take out.
  • The dishes get so backed up that there are no plates or silverware that are clean.  **My sister has even put her dishes in her tub when having company to avoid doing them!  haha
  • Yep!  That's my Christmas tree still in my front yard on Feb.1

  • My husband sometimes asks me nicely to get my prickly, native legs off him.  And on that note I have left the house with a sleeveless top & not realized that my underarm hair is embarrassing so I have to try to keep them by my side til I can get home.
  • I have taken my kids to school in my pajamas.
  • I have stayed in my pajamas for more than I would like to admit.  I am talking days.
  • Why do I have to ask so many times to pick up before getting something else out?  This picture is only 1 day after cleaning up.  It never ends.  How did this happen in 30 minutes?!?!  And this really is nothing compared to most days.

I could keep going here but I think that I have hopefully made my point.  Give yourself a pat on the back.  I have learned through life that the standards that you thought you had to live by are only your perception of the truth.  Some things really don't matter.  Remember what is important!  Here are two of my favorite quotes on the matter.

"Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see."  - John Lennon

"Be Kind for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle."  - Plato

And to end on a funny note.  When I hear the term "keeping it real", I can't help but think of Dave Chappelle's skit called "When keeping it real goes wrong".  So watch & laugh & remember.

  1. Hey there, Krista...I thought I was the only one decorating with laundry (although I have a heavy dose of dog hair added for flair!). Thanks for this post - wonderfully written and understood :-)
