Who farts more?

Just writing the title to this post makes me giggle.  I don't think there is any age limit where farting doesn't make you laugh.  There is just something about it.  I bet you are laughing right now that I have even written this post.  My girls are always giggling when it comes up.  Even Evelyn who is 18 months laughs so hard when she toots.

Last night as Andy & I were laying in bed this was the topic of conversation.  Yes, so romantic, I know!  We both wondered why he can fart bigger but they aren't very smelly and I can fart very little and they are deadly.  Sorry for the TMI here.

So I decided to look up the answers today.  If you have kids, they have probably already asked you many of these questions.  Now we both can have the answers to their questions as well as mine!

This site answered all my questions:  http://www.heptune.com/farts.html

Here are some great questions that were answered for me:

Do men's farts smell more than women's farts?
-They say that actually women's smell worse because we have a higher concentration of odor-causing bacteria in our gut.

Is it true that some people don't fart?
-They say that everyone farts even dead people.  But if they hold in their fart, it never goes away it is just delayed.

Do men fart more than women?
-They say no but men's farts have more volume.

What does the average person fart a day?
-Typically 14 times.

What color do farts burn?
-Some people but not all produce methane and hydrogen.  They burn blue or yellow.

What foods cause farts?
-They say meats, beans because of the sugars, corn, bell peppers, cauliflower, cabbage, milk, bread, eggs, raisins, people who are lactose intolerant, carbonated drinks.  Also, nervousness and swallowing air or people with fast digestion.

  2. Many many years ago, my best friend gave me "The Gas We Pass the Story of Farts" by Shinta Cho...followed by "Walter the Farting Dog" by William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray, and Audrey Coleman. Great books to giggle over with the kiddos. Of course, I was given these many moons before kids, and she knew I'd love and laugh for years with them!
