To Wrap or Not to Wrap

Every year for Christmas so far we haven't wrapped our Christmas presents from Santa because I am the mom and that is how my parents did it.  Andy's presents from Santa were always wrapped.  But since he never volunteered to wrap any of them then it just defaulted to my way.  Plus, I like things the way I like them!  I always thought that it would be pretty cool to have all the presents wrapped under the tree but who really wants to wrap them all.  That task just didn't seem fun at all and I was just too tired.

Looking back on lots of things I can see now that most things were always MY way.  Big Surprise, right?  I'm a stay at home mom for the most part so I was supposed to rule the roost.  Or so I thought!

Life has a way of showing you some lessons sometimes.  I now know that it is so important to include your entire family (husbands included) in the day to day grind & decisions.  I no longer just take care of everything or make all the decisions when it comes to the 'household'.  It has really made for such a happier home.

Here is Sophia's pile under the tree that is unwrapped.

This year Andy mentioned again about wrapping Santa's presents, and I said "Sure, let's do it!" I don't think he really believed me because on Christmas eve I got out all the wrapping stuff and he said, "We are really going to do this?"  So together we wrapped the presents under the tree with Christmas music on and sipped on a nice IPA.  It was such a wonderful memory.

On Christmas morning when the girls got up they came into our room and with excitement exclaimed that Santa wrapped all the presents!  It was so stinking cute to watch them have to patiently wait for our lazy, slow behinds to crawl out of bed.  Then they had to wait for Evelyn to get up too.  I thought they were going to explode.  They did get to play with all their goodies that they got in their stocking though.

I am giggling right now remembering their sweet squeals of joy while taking turns unwrapping their presents.  The morning lasted until lunch time when all the presents had finally been unwrapped.  They would unwrap a few and then have to play with it for a bit and watch everyone else have a turn too.  I have to admit that wrapping the presents was far the best Christmas morning that I have experienced.  We are now definitely Present Wrappers!

And what a wonderful lesson for me to let go of control and experience another way and be Happy!  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas as well.
